Department of Psychology Orientation Program Welcomes M.A. Part I Students

The Department of Psychology at SNDT Women’s University, Churchgate, recently held an inspiring orientation program for the incoming M.A. Part I students, marking the beginning of their academic journey for the 2024-2025 session. The event took place on July 30, 2024, in classroom 601, where 83 newly admitted students were warmly welcomed by the department’s faculty and staff.

The program was hosted by Ms. Madhura Kalyankar, an M.A. Part II student specializing in Counseling Psychology. Her introduction set a positive tone for the afternoon, as she introduced the faculty and non-teaching staff. Prof. Nilesh Thakre, Head of the Department, led the introductions, highlighting the roles of key faculty members, including Ms. Chaitri Dave, Ms. Durgesh Badeswal, Ms. Takreem Malick, Ms. Tasmiya Kazi, and Ms. Akshata Joshi. A video presentation by Ms. Kazi provided an engaging overview of the department’s achievements and activities.

The orientation was further enriched by the involvement of senior students from M.A. Part II, who shared their experiences with On-the-Job Training (OJT) and internships. Students from each specialization—Clinical, Counseling, and Industrial and Organizational Psychology—offered practical advice and insights, helping the new students understand the expectations and opportunities within their respective fields. These testimonials were complemented by guidance on discipline, course coordination, and the overall student experience provided by Ms. Takreem Malick.

Visiting faculty members, including Ms. Neha Bhansali, Ms. Nazema Sagi, and Dr. Chandana Seth, also contributed to the program. Ms. Sagi, in particular, delivered an impactful session on ethics in psychology, providing essential guidance for the students as they embark on their professional journeys.

Dr. Thakre concluded the event with an overview of the department’s rich history, its notable contributors, and the various facilities and placement opportunities available to students. His words of encouragement resonated with the new cohort, setting a strong foundation for the year ahead.

As the program drew to a close, faculty members distributed welcome kits to the students, which included a folder bearing the department’s logo, a pen, and a bookmark. The session ended with a Vote of Thanks, ensuring that the students felt both welcomed and prepared.

Feedback collected from the participants indicated a high level of satisfaction, with many appreciating the clarity of the information presented and the engaging delivery by the speakers. This successful orientation laid the groundwork for a promising academic year, fostering a sense of community and support within the department.
